Yasiin Bey did an interview last week with "The Cutting Room Floor" and offered up his opinion of Drake's music.
Bey said -
“Drake is pop to me. In the sense like, if I was in Target in Houston and I heard a Drake song, it feels like a lot of his music is compatible with shopping. Or shopping with an edge, in certain instances.”
Bey did say that he liked Drake's music but also compared it to the perfect music for shopping at a mall.
NLE Choppa hopped in to defend Drake -
“They hate on this man so much it’s ridiculous. Dude catalog more than respectable. He like the [Kool-Aid] man different flavors for each day of the month. [Bey] don’t know what he talking about!”
And then Drake posted an old Method Man interview on his Insta story with the caption -
“What umi say again? Lemme shine my light king don’t change up now,”
This is the interview that Drake posted
Personally, I don't really have any issue with what Bey said. I think things are getting blown up a little bit and people are being too defensive when it comes to Drake. Bey gave his opinion. He didn't call Drake trash or bury him in any way. He basically said that his music isn't really for him. There's nothing wrong with what he said. At least that's how I see it. It's okay to be critical of artists or to not like music that other people like. To me, this is something that's getting more attention than it should. Then again, here I am giving it attention.
