Need A Summer Job? NY State Parks Are Looking For Lifeguards

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation are currently looking for lifeguards for the upcoming season. There are specific criteria that candidates will need to meet which does include completing the qualifying procedures. 

If you are thinking about trying to qualify, you'll need CPR skills, water rescue abilities and will need to a strong swimmer. 

The 4 upcoming qualifiers will be - 

  • April 27th, 9:00 a.m. at Ballston Spa High School
  • May 11th, 9:00 a.m. at Ballston Spa High School
  • May 18th, 9:00 a.m. at Ballston Spa High School
  • June 1st, 9:00 a.m. at Albany Academy

To become a lifeguard, you'll need to complete a lifeguard certification course through the Red Cross or other State approved courses. Once you've done that you'll need to pass a park lifeguard qualifier to prove that you're competent and have the skills to respond effectively in an emergency situation. 

Pay for the job can be anywhere from $20 to $24 an hour. There are currently position open at Moreau State Park, Saratoga Spa State Park, Grafton Lake State Park, Thompson Lake State Campground and also at Mine Kill State Park.
