Last week I talked about KRS-One turning down the invite to The Grammy's Hip Hop 50 Celebration. This week, we'll talk about why MC Hammer wasn't there. If you're wondering, yes he was invited. However, he turned the invite down.

As a matter of fact, according to Questlove, he was asked to open the show. Or to quote Quest, he was begged.

Quest actually did a 10 minute Q&A on his Twitter or "X" or whatever you want to call it. Looks like he was asked a few times about Hammer and him not being a part of the show.

But why? Why did Hammer turn down the invite? Well, Hammer has only participated in one of the Hip Hop 50 celebrations, which was back in November when they renamed a street in California after 2Pac.

Here's Hammer explanation -

“You ain’t hear me go to none of these HipHop50 — and just for the record, I got invited to every one,” “But I really don’t have the patience for the fakeness,”  “I’m really 60 years old. I can’t get with the fakeness of it all. I could do it with a young cat, but I can’t go around old cats and still be pretending.”

On a personal note, it would've been pretty amazing to see Hammer take the stage again and light it up like only Hammer can. He was one of the first rappers that got me interested in the music and also dancing back when I was younger. I've seen him in concert 2x and both of those shows were amazing! That said, I totally understand why he turned the invite down.
