News 10 Video

The Chief and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan made the announcement Wednesday

After six years as chief of police in the City of Albany, Eric Hawkins will be leaving the area. In a sit down interview with News 10, Hawkins and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan made the announcement Wednesday morning.

Hawkins will be moving to Warren, Michigan where he will serve as police commissioner. Before coming to Albany in 2018, he was chief of the Southfield Police Department in Southfield, Michigan.

It was an honor for me to serve in a city I grew to love. Albany will forever have a special place in my heart.

Mayor Sheehan says Hawkins will continue to serve in the Albany Police Department until the beginning of December.

I am extremely grateful to Chief Hawkins for his 6+ years of service to the residents of the City of Albany and the Albany Police Department. During his time as leader of this organization, we have seen incredible work done by the APD.

In the meantime, Hawkins will help with the transition as the city looks for a new police chief.
