The man apparently fell from a scaffold

Update 1:39pm: Cam Cardner, the Assistant Chief of the Northside Fire Department in Waterford told NewsChannel 13:

Luckily and thankfully, the Canal Corporation had a crane on sight. We packaged the patient into our stokes basket, and we were able to carefully lift him out of the lock.

A worker with the New York State Canal Corporation was hurt Wednesday morning after falling into the empty basin of Erie Canal Lock 5 in Waterford.

News 10 says the accident happened around 9 a.m. while the worker was on scaffolding for a maintenance project. Officials say the worker fell about 10 feet and was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries hasn’t been confirmed yet.
