Commemorating Our Heroes with Memorial Day Parades around the Capital Region

As Memorial Day draws near, communities in and around the Capital Region are gearing up to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation. Among the various ways to pay tribute, Memorial Day parades stand out as timeless expressions of gratitude and remembrance. Here's a collection of 2024 Memorial Day parades happening in Albany and its neighboring areas, offering opportunities for residents to come together and honor the sacrifices of our servicemembers.

 

Wednesday, May 22nd

Scotia-Glenville Memorial Day Parade is set for Wednesday, May 22 at 6:15 p.m. with the parade route heading down Mohawk Avenue in Scotia. A ceremony will take place after the parade at the War Memorial in Collins Park.

Waterford Memorial Day parade is set for Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. The parade will follow Grace Street to Saratoga Avenue to Broad Street and end with a ceremony at Soldiers and Sailors Park.

 

Thursday, May 23rd

The City of Cohoes is hosting its Memorial Day Parade on Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m. with the parade starting at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Columbia Street and ending at Canal Square.

Melrose, Schaghticoke, Valley Falls, & Johnsonville Parade, line-up @6:15pm on Knickerbocker Rd in Hemstreet Park, step-off at 7pm, ends at Hemstreet Park Fire Department, where ceremony will be conducted.

Rotterdam Memorial Day Parade is set for Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. The parade will begin at Mohonasen High School, go down Curry Road, and end at Rotterdam Town Hall.

Schoharie Memorial Day Parade is set for Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m. It runs from Bridge Street to the Old Stone Fort.

 

Friday, May 24th

South Glens Falls Memorial Day Parade is set for Friday, May 24 at 6 p.m. The parade goes from Main Street to 5th Street and ends with a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park.

Veterans of Lansingburgh will begin flag placement starting at 8am at St. John’s Cemetery, volunteers to help place flags are always welcomed and appreciated.

 

Saturday, May 25th

Ballston Spa VFW Post 358 and the Henry Cornell American Legion Post 234 are hosting the Ballston Spa Memorial Day Parade on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m. The parade starts just north of Union Fire Company on Route 50 and ends at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Low Street with a ceremony. After, free light refreshments will be served in Wiswall Park. The event goes on rain or shine.

East Greenbush Ceremony/Parade- Ceremony at 8:30am at the East Greenbush Reformed Church Cemetery on Hay Rd. Parade line-up (East Greenbush Bowl) at 9am – step-off at 10am ending at East Greenbush VFW #7338.

Hague is having its 21st annual Memorial Day Parade and Funfest on Saturday, May 25. Funfest runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hague Town Park. The parade starts at 2 p.m. and runs from Route 8 to Hague Town Park. A memorial dedication will take place at the park after the parade.

Lake George Memorial Day Parade is set for Saturday, May 25 at 11:30 a.m. The parade steps off from West Brook Road at 11:30 a.m. and goes to Shepard Park where a ceremony will take place.

Veterans of Lansingburgh at Oakwood Cemetery flag placement at 9am, meet at the main flagpole and then will proceed to the Soldiers Plot.

 

Sunday, May 26th

Rensselaer Parade, meet near Doane Stuart School parking lot (Forbes Ave. & Washington Ave. intersection) 1pm ceremony the parade will step off at 2 p.m. on Washington Avenue and end at Huyck Square for closing ceremonies.

 

Memorial Day

Monday, May 27th

City of Albany’s annual Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 and steps off at 9:30 a.m. The parade starts at the corner of Central Avenue and Partridge Street and finishes at Academy Park.

Berlin Parade, line-up at 10:30am step-off at 11am at Maple Avenue.

Town of Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m.

Castleton Parade, line-up at 9am, step off at 10am at Boltwood Ave. and Seaman Ave., followed by ceremony at Mountain View.

Galway Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.

Glens Falls and Queensbury Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m. The parade starts on Glen Street from Maple Street and ends at Crandall Park where a ceremony will take place at the Victory & Peace Monument.

Gloversville Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 at 9:30 a.m. The parade runs from the intersection of 8th Avenue and Main Street, then to 6th Avenue and Kingsboro Avenue, and ends at Prospect Hill Cemetery where a ceremony will be held.

Hoosick Falls Parade/Ceremony- Ceremony at 8am and Parade line up at 9:30am in Wood Park, step-off at 10am.

Kingsbury Memorial Day Parade steps off from the Franklin Street parking lot of Hudson Falls High School at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27. The parade goes to the Veterans Monument J. Walter in Hudson Falls for a ceremony.  At 11 a.m., the Hudson Falls Memorial Day Parade starts at Clark, Main Street, Forrest Street, and North Oak Street and goes to Union Cemetery for Memorial Services a the Veterans Monument and then to the Hudson Falls American Legion for a Memorial Service.

North Greenbush Parade, line-up 12:30pm at Town Hall and side streets, step-off 1:00pm.

Nassau Parade, line up 1pm in the Village of Nassau near the Post Office, step-off at 2pm with reception to follow at the Chandler Young Veterans Association Post.

City of Pittsfield is having its Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m. The parade will go down North Street to Wahconah Street and then to Pittsfield Cemetery. A ceremony will follow at the cemetery.

Poestenkill Parade, line-up 10am at Sullivan-Jones VFW, step-off at 11am.

Sand Lake Parade, line-up at 9am (Averill Avenue) – step-off at 10am, proceed east on NY 43 to the Sand Lake Veteran’s Memorial Park, where ceremony will be conducted.

St. Johnsville Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 at 9:30 a.m. A memorial service will take place at Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Park after the parade.

Troy Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 at 1 p.m. The parade route will go from Knickerbacker Park to Powers Park. There will be a cookout at Forty-One Sports Grille afterward.  Additionally there is a ceremony at St. Nicholas Cemetery on Vandenburgh Ave., Troy at 10am.

Watervliet Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m. The parade starts at Watervliet High School and ends at Memorial Veterans Park with a ceremony.
